Tooth Replacement Options in Sydney

Restore Your Smile After Tooth Loss

A missing tooth affects more than your smile. Chewing can become uncomfortable, and the teeth beside the gap can drift out of place. The jawbone under the gap also begins to shrink within months, and over time this bone loss can change your face shape.

Bondi Family Dentist offers fixed and removable tooth replacement options in Sydney. Our treatments include dental implants, bridges, partial dentures, and full dentures, so we can help whether you’re missing a single tooth or a full arch.

We’ll explain how each treatment works so you can choose with confidence. We custom-make every restoration to match your natural teeth, giving you a smile that looks and feels like your own.

Which Tooth Replacement Option Is Right for You?

The best choice depends on how many teeth are missing and where they are. Your gum and jawbone health also plays a part, along with your budget.

At your consultation, we’ll examine your teeth and talk through what matters most to you before recommending a treatment plan.

Our Tooth Replacement Options

We offer tooth replacement treatments suited to different people and their needs.

Dental Implants

A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone to replace the missing tooth root. Once it has bonded with the bone, a custom crown is fitted on top. Implants stand on their own without support from nearby teeth, and they help preserve bone where a tooth has been lost. Several implants can also anchor a bridge or a full-arch restoration.

Dental Bridges

A dental bridge fills the gap with one or more replacement teeth anchored to crowns on the teeth on either side. Treatment usually takes two visits and involves no surgery. When the adjacent teeth are healthy, it’s one of the quickest ways to a complete smile.

Partial Dentures

Partial dentures replace several missing teeth in the same arch. The replacement teeth sit on a gum-coloured base that clips onto your natural teeth. You can remove them for cleaning.

Full Dentures

When every tooth in an arch is missing, a full denture can restore your smile and your ability to eat. Each set is made from impressions of your mouth for a comfortable fit. For extra stability, some patients choose implant-retained dentures that clip onto implants.

Tooth Replacement Frequently Asked Questions

Which tooth replacement option lasts the longest?

Dental implants have excellent long-term results. A 2019 systematic review in the Journal of Dentistry found around 96% of implants were still in place after ten years. Bridges and dentures can also last many years, although dentures may need relining or replacement as your mouth changes shape.

How long does a dental bridge last?

A systematic review in Clinical Oral Implants Research found that about 89% of conventional bridges were still in place after ten years. The health of the supporting teeth matters most, so daily cleaning under your bridge helps it last.

Should I choose an implant or a bridge?

Both give you a fixed tooth that looks natural. An implant stands on its own and helps preserve the jawbone, while a bridge avoids surgery and is often faster to complete. If the teeth next to the gap already need crowns, a bridge can restore them at the same time.

Am I a candidate for dental implants?

Most adults with healthy gums and enough jawbone are suitable. If the bone has shrunk since you lost a tooth, a bone graft may rebuild the area first. We’ll assess your suitability with an examination and X-rays.

How soon should I replace a missing tooth?

Once a tooth is lost, the jawbone in that area starts to shrink, and the neighbouring teeth can begin to shift. Acting early keeps more options open and can simplify treatment.

How should I care for implants and dentures?

Brush implants twice a day and clean between them with floss or interdental brushes. Regular check-ups matter, because the gums around an implant can still become inflamed. Clean dentures twice a day with a soft brush and mild soap, since toothpaste can scratch them, and take them out overnight to rest your gums.

Does smoking affect dental implants?

A 2021 meta-analysis covering more than 35,000 implants in smokers found smokers had around 2.4 times the odds of implant failure compared with non-smokers. They also showed more bone loss around their implants. If you smoke, we’ll talk through how to give your implant the best chance of success.

How long does it take to get used to new dentures?

Most people adapt within a few months. In a 2023 study in The International Journal of Prosthodontics, about 82% of patients had adapted to a new lower denture within six months, and the average time was around 11 weeks. Follow-up visits at Bondi Family Dentist let us fine-tune the fit as you adjust.
